The 2024 Election: Jesus Is Greater Than The Vote

As we approach another election season, tensions are high, and opinions are polarized. Many of us may feel pressured to choose sides, support candidates, and argue our perspectives. But as believers, we know that our hope doesn’t rest on any political system, party, or candidate. The challenges we face as individuals and as a nation go far deeper than any policy or politician can address. Our ultimate hope lies not in our vote, but in Jesus Christ, who transcends political boundaries and offers the true solution to the issues of our hearts and society.

Voting is not a bad thing, but placing our faith in it above or equal to our faith in God is apostasy. We must never forget that and align our trust among the two accordingly.

Let’s explore why our faith in Christ surpasses the vote and how we, as Christians, can approach this election with a biblical perspective.

1. The Kingdom of God Is Not of This World

As Christians, we are called to remember that our citizenship is ultimately in heaven, not on earth. Jesus Himself made it clear that His kingdom is fundamentally different from earthly political systems. In John 18:36 (KJV), Jesus said:

“My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”

Jesus didn’t come to establish a political regime but to bring salvation to humanity and establish an eternal kingdom. While political engagement has value, we must remember that no election, politician, or government can bring the kind of lasting transformation that Jesus offers. Political solutions address surface issues, but Jesus addresses the heart, which is where true change begins.

As followers of Christ, we should participate responsibly, but we must avoid putting our ultimate hope in worldly systems. Instead, we look to Jesus, knowing that His kingdom is eternal, unshaken by the changing tides of political power.

2. No Political Party Can Fully Represent God’s Kingdom

Every political party or candidate represents only a partial view of the values we hold as Christians. Our faith is not a political ideology, and no political party aligns perfectly with the teachings of Scripture. Some issues may align more closely with biblical principles, but we cannot expect a human government to perfectly reflect God’s kingdom.

In Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV), God reminds us of the vast difference between His ways and human ways:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Our allegiance to Christ must come before any political affiliation, as God’s wisdom and ways surpass all human understanding. When we attach ourselves too strongly to a political party or ideology, we risk allowing our allegiance to God to become entangled with flawed human systems. While we should vote according to our conscience and biblical convictions, we must also remember that God’s kingdom transcends the agendas of any party.

3. Jesus Is the True Solution to Humanity’s Problems

Politics often promises solutions to the problems we see in society—poverty, injustice, inequality, and more. But the root of all these issues is sin, and the only lasting solution is Jesus Christ. Politicians and governments may make efforts to improve conditions, but they cannot address the core issue: our broken relationship with God.

In Romans 3:23 (KJV), Paul tells us:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Sin is the underlying issue in all human suffering and division. Only Jesus, through His death and resurrection, can bridge the gap between us and God, offering forgiveness and transformation. This truth doesn’t mean we should ignore social issues; on the contrary, we should be actively involved in alleviating suffering and promoting justice. But we must remember that lasting change comes only through Jesus. Our role as Christians is to be His ambassadors, sharing the good news and showing His love in all that we do.

At the end of the day: The more people that are saved, and the more we place our emphasis on God’s Way, the stronger our country will become.

4. Our Hope Is in God’s Sovereignty, Not in Human Leaders

No matter who wins an election, we can trust that God remains in control. The Bible affirms that God is sovereign over all rulers and authorities, and nothing happens outside of His will. In Daniel 2:21 (KJV), we read:

“And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings.”

This verse reminds us that God has authority over all human leadership. Though we may not understand His reasons, we can trust that He uses even imperfect leaders to fulfill His purposes. When we place our hope in God’s sovereignty rather than in any candidate, we experience a peace that cannot be shaken by the results of an election.

5. We Are Called to Be Salt and Light, Regardless of Political Outcomes

Our calling as believers doesn’t change based on who is in office. Jesus called us to be “salt” and “light” in the world (Matthew 5:13-16), influencing others by reflecting His love, truth, and righteousness. Regardless of political outcomes, we are called to live as Christ’s representatives, demonstrating His character through our actions, words, and attitudes.

In Philippians 2:14-15 (KJV), Paul exhorts us:

“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”

Our response to political issues should reflect the peace and joy we have in Christ. Instead of engaging in divisive arguments or losing hope, we can show the world the steadfastness that comes from trusting in Jesus. When we do this, we offer a powerful witness, demonstrating that our ultimate security and identity are found in God alone.

6. Prayer and Faith Are More Powerful Than the Ballot

Voting ican be a useful civic duty, but as Christians, our greatest power lies in prayer. When we pray, we align ourselves with God’s will and invite Him to work in ways that no political leader can. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (KJV) encourages us to pray for our leaders:

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Our prayers for our leaders, regardless of their political stance, invite God’s intervention in our nation. Through prayer, we place our trust in God rather than in human systems. We recognize that real transformation comes through His power, not through elections.

Conclusion: Jesus Is Greater Than the Vote

As we approach the 2024 election, let us remember that our true hope is not in any candidate or policy but in Jesus Christ, who alone is worthy of our trust. While we should vote according to our faith and values, we must never allow politics to eclipse the centrality of Christ in our lives. Jesus transcends every government, ideology, and political outcome. He alone has the power to change hearts, reconcile us to God, and bring true and lasting peace.

Let us approach this election season with a spirit of faith, peace, and hope. With the knowledge that Jesus is greater than the vote and that His kingdom will never end.
